Healthier, friendly to the environment, comfortable,
convenient, and economical.
How to use the DivaCup.
The Healthier Choice - The DivaCup is a medical grade silicon receptacle that is used to collect your
menstrual fluids. It does not absorb or disrupt your natural vaginal acidity or
moisture levels, or expose you to chemicals like bleach, glues, and absorbency
gels. Back in the 1930's the innovative menstrual cup was invented as a form of internal feminine protection. The DivaCup™ is a new version of this proven concept that has been redesigned with the latest technology in molding and materials. It is made from durable medical grade silicone, which is used in many medical applications such as medical tubing, baby bottle nipples, breast pumps, contact lenses and even permanent medical internal body parts such as heart valves and joint replacements. The DivaCup silicone is not the same silicone used in breast implants. Unlike the gel silicone used in breast implants, the silicone used in The DivaCup is in a solid stable form and is 100% hypo-allergenic.
Environmentally Friendly - Since The DivaCup™ is reusable, it is very environmentally friendly . You can feel confident that you are doing your part in environmental conservation. Landfill and pollution problems are on the rise and continue to be a worldwide concern. In 1998, 6.5 billion tampons and 13.5 billion sanitary pads and their packaging made their way into landfills and sewage systems in the USA alone!
Comfortable & Convenient - The DivaCup is easily inserted by folding the bell shaped cup vertically.
Insert the cup until the narrow base of the cup is just one to two cm. inside
the entrance to your vagina. Rotate The DivaCup once to ensure that it has
unfolded. Then tug gently on the stem for a snug seal.
The DivaCup is so comfortable, most women even forget they are wearing it!
You may be concerned that The DivaCup is unsanitary or messy. These concerns
usually vanish after you have used it a few days. While you are sitting on the
toilet, simply remove it by gently pinching the base of the cup (which releases
the seal). Your menstrual fluid remains inside the cup, so the underside stays
clean. Just empty the contents in the toilet, rinse well or wipe, and then
reinsert.
Economical - Because The DivaCup is reusable for at least TEN years, the monthly cost is
only about 30 cents. It typically costs less than one-tenth of what you are now
spending, not to mention the financial impact of less pollution and garbage
disposal. The DivaCup has a full one year money back guarantee.
It can hold up to 1 full ounce of menstrual flow. The entire average monthly
flow is about 3 ounces. The DivaCup is simple to use. Just empty the cup as
required (approximately every 6 to 12 hours), rinse, and reinsert. It is not
necessary to remove it for urination or bowel movements.
Model "2" is for you if you have ever had vaginal
childbirth or if you are over 30 (yes, our muscles do tend to get less firm as we age). Otherwise you will order
Style "1".
- Is silicone OK to use in my body? - Solid silicone products have been shown to be biocompatible (i.e. accepted by the human body without adverse reaction), durable, flexible, and easy to sterilize. Silicone materials have been extensively tested in laboratory studies, as well as clinical studies that study human health.
-
Silicone comes in oil, liquid, gel and solid forms. Solid silicone differs from the silicone gel used in breast implants. The DivaCup is made from medical grade silicone in the solid form where the molecules are chain-linked and bound together. Solid medical grade silicone does not leach into the body and has been used for over 50 years in medical procedures such as joint prostheses and heart valve replacements. The DivaCup is also cured for 2 hours at 200 degrees Celsius to ensure every molecule is permanently bound into place.
- My flow is heavy. Will it leak? - It should not leak if inserted as per the
instructions. Remember The DivaCup holds one full ounce and the average woman
only flows about three ounces in her entire cycle.
- How often do I need to empty it? - Tampons and pads soaked with menstrual
fluid give many women a misperception of how much they flow. If you currently
change your pads or tampons frequently, you can initially empty the cup at the
same frequency. By monitoring the fullness of the cup, you will then be able to
accurately determine the required frequency. After a couple of periods, you will
easily adapt to your own cycle.
- But what if I have to remove it in a public washroom? - Once they use The DivaCup, most women find they need to empty it less often than they thought,
perhaps only every 6 to 12 hours. You shouldn't need to empty it every time you
go to the washroom. On occasions where you do need to empty it in a public
washroom, just remove it, empty the contents in the toilet, wipe the rim and
reinsert. Some women take a dampened tissue into the stall with them.
-
I'm very physically active. Will it work for me? - Yes! It's fantastic for
swimmers, outdoor enthusiasts, aerobic classes, cycling, travelers, campers, and
so on. You will feel fresh, secure, and liberated. No feminine hygiene products
to pack (or run out of). No worries about staying close to a bathroom. No
restrictions on physical activity.
- If it's so good, why haven't I heard of it? - The original menstrual cup was
available in the early 1930's, but was quickly overshadowed by the popularity of
disposable products. Popularity in The DivaCup is rising dramatically now,
because women are so much more ecologically conscious, (disposables cause much
damage to the environment), and medical studies have associated Toxic Shock
Syndrome with tampon usage.
- Isn't The DivaCup too expensive? - Remember The DivaCup lasts at least TEN
years. It's really an investment, compared to the money you now spend on
disposables. Many women spend more for hair styling, a blouse, shoes, etc. The
monthly cost is less than a cup of coffee or a package of chewing gum. You are
investing in a product that will give you increased comfort and freedom, and is
healthier for you to use.
- If Toxic Shock is a risk, why are tampons still sold? - Each of us is
responsible for making the choices that affect our health. The government allows
tobacco and alcohol to be sold also, but you know there are associated risks.
The hygiene companies are huge, profitable, politically connected, and most
women do not get serious tampon related diseases. However, risks of tampons and
pads are well documented, and the previously cited benefits of The DivaCup are
compelling reasons to use it. Why risk your health when there is a better
alternative?
- This thing looks huge compared to a tampon, should I just trade in the size 2 that I got for a size 1? - All of the customers that I have had do this have not been happy with the fit of the size 1. If you fit the requirements of the size 2, that's the one that will work best for you. The DivaCup is very different than any disposable products that you may have used and it does require some practice. You should try using the DivaCup at night if you are having trouble getting it to feel right during the day. You will find that at night the Cup will gravitate to a more comfortable position. Then you have a good idea of where it needs to be during the day. Remember that you have one year to figure out the DivaCup so you can take your time.
- Every DivaCup order includes a discreet drawstring carry bag, full instructions, and two extra pamphlets to share with friends. We also include an exclusively designed Diva pin with silver accents, that we hope you can proudly wear to show your support and help us spread the word about this amazing product!
- OK, most of that stuff above is from the manufacturer. I bit
more hype than I would write, but I think that they have a lot of good
information there. I have been using the DivaCup and its predecessor (the Keeper) with some cloth pads
for a few of years now, and it has been great. What I like the best about
using the DivaCup is that it gives be the freedom to forget about my period
except for the two times a day that I have to empty it out. I also like not worrying about
leakage at night.
- Model "2" is if you have ever had a vaginal or cesarean section childbirth (even if it has been many years ago) or if you are over 30 years old. Otherwise you will order Model "1". Model 1 is ¼" smaller in diameter than Model 2. This product cannot be returned if the package has been opened. Unopened returns should be made within two weeks of purchase. Made in Canada for DivaCup International.

Author: eph520@... I have used this for months probably over a year and I consider this product a true work of genius! It took a little time to get used to inserting it properly just the 1st month, just abour the same as a tampon but the comfort and convenience far surpass ANY product at the Drugstore. The "yuck" factor is less than a messy pad or tampon. One month I had "misplaced" it it was left in my travel bag and had to go back to the tampon/pad routine. I was going to order a backup Diva cup just in case that ever happened again. Also, I leak far less than I ever did with the standard tampon/pad combination I always had to use on the first few days. The price is minimal for the convinience and comfort!

Author: ErinA I've been using this product for quite awhile now, and have been completely happy with it! It was faintly messy when I was getting used to inserting and removing it, but after the first day (once I got the hang of it!) it was a breeze and much cleaner than anything I've ever used before. The 'leak' factor with this product is nearly non-existent. In fact, the only leaks I've encountered so far have been when I hadn't inserted the cup properly (I also could tell it didn't 'feel' right at the time.) I would and do recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a more environmentally friendly, cleaner product for that time. I wish I'd found it sooner, myself! I might note that I do use other products with this, but only a few: I always use a panty liner (the washables are great as you have to use very few during a single day. I also keep feminine sanitary wipes with me when I go out. These help keep things discreet when in a public restroom. But that's all! This product is comfortable, and the fact that it's so much cleaner makes me feel much more confident during 'that time'.
